The flow of data generated from low-cost modern sensing
technologies and wireless telecommunication devices enables novel
research fields related to the management of this new kind of data
and the implementation of appropriate analytics for knowledge
extraction.
Projects:
Geographic Privacy-aware
Knowledge Discovery and Delivery (GeoPKDD)
FP6-14915 IST/FET Project funded by the European Commission.
The general goal of the GeoPKDD project is to develop
theory, techniques and systems for knowledge discovery and delivery,
based on new automated privacy-preserving methods for extracting
user-consumable forms of knowledge from large amounts of raw data
referenced in space and in time.

Earthquake data composes an ever increasing collection of earth science information for post-processing
analysis. Earth scientists, local or national administration officers and so forth, are working with these
data collections for scientific or planning purposes.

There are a number of research and professional areas which need
novel analytical solutions. Extending traditional BI techniques so
as to satisfy different areas is really interested! Particularly
interested in: Business Performance Management - Operational BI,
Analyzing Stocks, Analyzing Polls.

Patterns are extracted from large data collections and they
represent information and knowledge regarding specific data
attributes and features. Scientists and end users of various
applications are interested in these patterns and they use data
mining techniques to extract them. As patterns are getting more
complicated and end users are interested in a lot of different
patterns, the need for pattern management is emerging.
Projects:
Pattern
Representation, Storage and Retrieval using an XML-based PBMS
architecture
A Pattern Base Management System (PBMS) is a system for handling
patterns as a Database Management System (DBMS) handles data.
